How Do You Eat An Elephant?

One bite at a time they say, but gross who wants to eat elephant? Not me for sure. But that is basically the philosophy I'm with my ongoing weight loss. This week at my weigh in I lost .5 lb, may not seem like a lot but as long as the number is doing down that's all that matters.

There was a discussion a week ago at the meeting that sometimes people are surprised by the number on the scale not sure how they gained that week. I don't buy it, on the weeks when I've had gains (thank God it's only happened a couple times) I know exactly why I gained. Not paying attention to what I was eating and settling back into the old habits that got me here in the first place. Taking responsibility for your own actions isn't easy for some. I could come up with dozens of reasons why I got fat and how I could make it someone elses fault, but when it all comes down to it. It was my choice and my choice alone, noone force fed me one bite.

But now I have a choice to love me and to do what is necessary to make my body the temple it's supposed to be. I'm not saying I'll be 125 lbs again like when Ralph & I first met. But I will be trying to treat my body with the respect it deserves. R.E.S.P.E.C.T find out what it means to me. Cheers.

I decided to start blogging again about my weight loss. I stopped doing it for some unknown reason and have decided I like sharing my story. Even if noone reads this putting it down in words gives me a sense of freedom.

That is my magic number this week at my Weight Watchers weigh in. I am down 1.5 lbs this week, yeah! I've lost 1.5 lbs each week for the past 3 weeks now. I love being able to eat real food and to have the freedom to induldge when it strikes my fancy. I've often referred to feeling like a prisoner in this body. I didn't grow up heavy, I actually had a nice figure until after my 2nd son was born.
Time to reclaim my old body back. Believe me when I say I have no dilusions of waking up a size 10 tomorrow, I know there is a purpose for the journey back down to my normal size. Just like I know there is a purpose with the journey we are on right now in trying to pay off our bills. I will pray for strength each day, if you remember say a little pray for me. Cheers!

A Complete Success

Last month I hosted my first "girls night" at my house. I spoke before of the desire to have some of my best girlfriends over to try some new foods and just be social. It was a great evening 6 fabulous friends came over ready for the culinary adventure. Here was the evenings simple samplings:

1. Honey Apple Brie Bites
2. Onion Pepper Relish Dip
3. Smoky Bacon Cheddar Dip (from Albertsons) w/ bagette slices
4. Sunrise Punch

We sat around and ate, laughed, talked serious and just had a great night. Some of us work together, used to work together, are friends of friends but made was a great mix of peeps. I am planning my 2nd girls night later this month. I have to mention a HUGE thanks to Sandy over at Reluctant Entertainer without her I don't think I would have been able to start coming out of my entertaining shell. Her book is awesome, if you like having people over or are just to darn scared to (I was) pick up a copy. On girls night I picked up my house a little, but didn't sweep or mop or vacuum. Guess what? Noone noticed. CHEERS!

My Boy at the Prom

Seriously, one day you turn around and here they are setting off to go to the prom. Hmmmm, how did this happen? Did elves kidnap my young child and bring in a full grown replacement? He looked so handsome, or if you ask him he looked "hot". It was kind of a reality shock that we are in the home stretch with him. His last year of school is upon us. Did we do a good job parenting him? I guess we can ask him in 10 years. Cheers.

Girls Day on the Horizon

Since the dreary freezing days of winter here I've been planning to have some girlfriends over. I imagine sometime in the spring when the temperature is mild, not to cold, not to hot. My grand idea is to make a few appetizers that I'm pretty sure my family would not try, but my bestest girlfriends will be up for. One of them is the Roasted Strawberry Bruschetta from Sandy over at Reluctant Entertainer. It looks simple but tasty. For a drink I'm dying to try the Dulce de Leche coffee at Pioneer Woman. For my birthday my girlies Sandy & Julie took me out for wine w/ appetizers. We had this delicious platter with goat cheese, asst italian meats and pickled veggies. It was so simple and good, I may try to re-create that as well. Hopefully it will warm up here soon so I can put my plan into action. Cheers!

Enough Dishes to Feed Guests

So, for sometime now I've been trying to collect white dishes from thrift stores to add to my own. Remember I'm the one who only had service for 4, pretty hard to have folks over if they have nowhere to put there food. Anyway, I was up to 6 white Cafeware from Fred Meyer. I was cruising through Freddies one morning and came across white Corelle plates on clearance for $1.64. I only bought 3, because I couldn't remember how many dishes I had at home at was aiming for service for 12. When I got home and realized I now had a grand total of 9 I knew I had to go back to the store the next day and I did. Much to my sadness they were all gone, snatched up by some other women who was wanting the same thing as I. So that night I was at another Fred Meyer near my house getting dinner stuff. I cruised their home section and they were out as well, then I looked up for some reason. And there it was...a whole set of Corelle Enhancement pattern on clearance. Could it be? I did the math and it was on clearance for $22 and I had a $7 off coupon as well. Be still my heart, I grabbed it up quickly and whisked it away to the checkout line.

I now have service for 15. I didn't think I would like the Corelle again, I remember we had it growing up. This is an all white elegant design with a slight ridge on the edge. The moral of my story is be patient and you never know what you will come across. I think I may have friends over for St. Patricks Day. Cheers.

Time to Slumber

That's what I think when looking at my Christmas decorations and knowing I will be packing them up this weekend. I enjoy every minute they are up, since they only live for 30 days outside of their Christmas crates they are packed in. Stephanie & I braved the crowds yesterday to get some Christmas deals for next year. We had so much fun, just the girls no kids, no hubbies. I always buy my Christmas cards at Target and can usually pick up Christmas themed foil, body wash and candles for 50% off. Half off ornaments make great gifts for the following year for family & friends.

Next year I'm going old school with my tree. I found the fluffiest silver/gold garland and will spend the next year looking for vintage glass ornaments like I had when I was a kid. They will go nicely with the boys homemade ornaments. I don't have a tree topper, I may have to take some time finding one of those too. I forgot my camera so I can't post any pics from Christmas day.

We used to have a tradition of going to my mom's good friends house on Christmas Eve and eating appetizers and visiting. My own family doesn't have a tradition on Christmas Ever and I think I want one. Do you have one? Cheers.

Where Did December Go?

It's the 17th and I'm wondering how in the world this month flew by so fast. Normally I have my Christmas cards mailed out on the 1st (I do them over Thanksgiving weekend), and have also been working on a variety of craft projects. Now I'm worrying when am I going to get my chex mix made, how about the fudge? I usually make my own containers to give away goodies in now I'm forced to use the ones at the store. Truly I shouldn't sweat this stupid stuff.

I'm totally enjoying the radio station that play Christmas music all day long and I try very hard to dress festively for work each day. Most people who know me know that I'm a freak for all things Christmas, I can assume it's because the holiday was made special by my family. One of my favorite songs this year and last year was The Bare Naked Ladies version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Just fantastic I tell you. Cheers!

December Wonderland

Just a little taste of the weather we've been experiencing here. Thanksgiving week brought lots of snow/ice/sleet and brrrr cold. I got the boys outside to snap some pics for our Christmas card. I actually got 3 very good versions. Don't mess with mama when it comes to picture time, thems the rules boys. The middle picture at left is the hood of our truck with 11 inches of fluffy white goodness on it. So pretty but not practical to get around in. I haven't blogged much this month, I'm so sorry. Holidays, life and oh yeah I'm also a Pampered Chef consultant now. As you may know we are paying off bills and I'd like it to go a little faster. Since I like to cook it made sense to me. I'm listening to James Taylor's version of the Christmas Song right now on the radio. I listen to Christmas music every chance I get this time of year. My family doesn't complain much anymore, just listen and enjoy. I'm dreaming of what goodies I'm going to make this year. My thoughts so far are my amazing 2-Step Microwave fudge, homemade marshmallows, chex mix. What are yours? Cheers!

Christmas Mug Thrifting

I decided I wanted to be a little festive and get some Christmas coffee mugs. My absolute love is the mug in the upper left corner. It's a Corningware milk glass mug. It reminds me of Ralph's dad, these are the coffee mugs he always had (gold flower pattern). I went cruising my local Goodwill and found some cute mugs, all Christmas none of them match and that's totally okay with me. I picked up the red transferware teacup in September. The Mrs. Claus plate was $1 and I'm going to put fudge or other goodies for gift giving. You would be amazed at the Christmas stuff at the thrift stores. This Christmas doesn't have to be expensive or budget killing. This is my second year making cookies and candies to give away for gifts. I know my family always enjoys and is thankful when someone gives us treats at the holidays. Enjoy this week and the Thanksgiving holiday. Cheers!

THE THINGS WE DO FOR OUR KIDS

The list is probably so long it would end up being blog infinity. On Tuesday I got to accompany my oldest son and his friends to a rock concert. Not just any rock concert, it's called the Nothing & Everything tour. It consisted of 4 modern day Christian metal/screamo bands. One of them is called Head, the lead singer is Brian "Head" Welch who is the former lead guitarist from Korn. His story is amazing, he had hit bottom, found Christ and left his old band. His first book is entitled "Save Me From Myself", my oldest read it and really enjoyed it. This is not the music I normally listen to but it truly wasn't that bad. I wish they had put the lyrics up on a big screen for us parents who had no idea what was being said. I did catch the words father, love, God, amazing, thank goodness it was a Christian concert. I have some pictures of the boys with some of the band members, I will post them later because I don't know how to get them off of my phone to the computer yet. Sometimes we need to do things for our kids that take us out of our parent comfort zone. Maybe one day my boys will remember the night their mom took them to a heavy metal concert. Cheers!

A Quick Hello

Just wanted to touch base with a few quick updates. Things have been so crazy this past week and I haven't had much of a chance to blog myself or keep up on all of my favorite blogs that I follow. Here's short (or not so short) list of goings on and random thoughts.

Ryan got the rest of his braces on and is somewhat miserable. You can only eat so much applesauce.
I had a headache last week that lasted 4 days and finally went away on Thursday. Not so fun.
Wes' tuxedo job is ending this week, he will be out looking for other employment.
I'm thinking of going super blonde at my next hair appt.
I have some exciting news to share with you next week (p.s. it has to do with cooking)
I was checking out the Christmas ornaments at Fred Meyer, oh how I love thee.

Speed Bumps

I rarely blog about things in my life that I am struggling with etc. However today I am, I can't be the only one who feels horribly overwhelmed with daily life at times right? I'm frustrated that it is taking so long to pay off our bills so that we can buy a house. I wanted to pay off a credit card this week but the boy just announced he is going to homecoming. We are so excited for him, not so excited about the expenses that come with it. The pitfalls (and blessing) of being an uber planner is that I'm always thinking months ahead. The Las Vegas lacrosse tournament is coming in November, followed by Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thankfully the plane and hotel are paid for. I just want to cry. Why didn't I get a degree at college so that I would have a career that paid better than what i do now? Oh, Lord give me strength today because frankly I just don't have any.

As I scoured my garage finding items to donate for our lacrosse team fundraiser garage sale, it only made sense to buy more stuff to fill those empty spots. Just kidding, these are some new finds from my thrift store expeditions starting from upper right: wood fall potpourri $2 came with pumpkin basket that I'm currently trying to spray paint white. I already owned the orange glass purse vase .90 on clearance at Michaels'. Red/white/blue checked Pier One tablecloth $4, Restoration Hardware sugar canister $2 (for my powdered sugar), small green transferware plate $1 & center two shallow glass plates $1 each. I got these for the good o'l cream cheese with jalapeno jelly on top appetizer. My good friend Julie gave me some home grown peppers this weekend and I chopped them up and they are ready to go into a jelly recipe. The thrift stores are starting to put out their holiday items, you should go check it out. I found myself getting rid of holiday items I bought and never used and finding items that I always wanted but maybe couldn't afford at full price are a bargain now. Fall might be on it's way now, not sure yet we got fooled last week. Cheers!

Halloween Pillars

I just made these last weekend and it was super simple and super cheap. I first saw a display like this over at The Pretty Neat Company when I was looking for Christmas ideas. I thought why not use them for other holidays as well? Then the crafty cogs started turning in my head. I went cruising my thrift stores and found three pillar candle holders in different heights. I forgot to take before pics, sorry. One of the pillars was green, the squaty one was brown and the other was actually a Pottery Barn mercury glass. I spray painted them all Valspar satin black and wah-lah, three matching pillar holders. I want to find candle rings for the pumpkins to sit on but love the way they look. My striped pumpkins are from Walmart $3 for a bag of three. I'm thinking of changing it slightly for Thanksgiving and then for Christmas as well. People are so creative and I am so appreciative that they share there ideas.

Some of my newest finds from local thrift stores beginning at top right: green transferware plate $1, Mikasa jingle bell candy dish $2, brown transferware bowl $1.25, gold star napkins (.50) and sage green tablecloth ($2.50) , white serving platter ($1.99) and blue snowflake tablecloth ($3.99), swirled clear glass serving bowl, ($2), clear specialty drink mugs ($1). I've been trying to find pieces that I'll be able to use all year round. The candy dish I will fill with treats and give away at Christmas, it still had it's original tag on bottom. The clear mugs I've been collecting because I want to make this yummy Dulce De Leche coffee from Pioneer Woman and thought it would look so pretty in those. And at .50 a piece that's a bargain. I've been looking for green and red transferware to hang up at Christmas. Yes, I'm already planning don't judge me. There are great things out there at bargain prices if you are just willing to look. Ragamuffin Bag

Here is my Christmas version of Nester's Ragamuffin Bag. I had leftover strips of fabric from last year when I made the Ragamuffin Garland for Christmas. I love it, totally raggy, fun and different. Only needed a little time on a Saturday afternoon and some hot glue. I was in the process of making a Halloween one when I sliced my finger open on Labor Day causing an ER visit and stitiches. Just like Nester suggested the purse came from the thrift store and cost me $3. It was a woven/bamboo looking, but it doesn't matter because you are going to cover it up. I used some woven black edging to cover the top. This is so easy to make and you can customize to your liking. I may continue the Halloween bag here soon, but I'm a little gun shy about my rotary cutter. Cheers!

Ocean Alternative

I am yearning to sit on a deck of a beachhouse looking out at the ocean. Just relaxing, listening to the waves, reading a book maybe. The last two weeks have been absolutely crazy, it's hard to keep my head straight. Have you ever wanted just to be somewhere and not have to worry about anything? I do, usually when I'm feeling stressed and overwhelmed. When I lay my head down each night I fall asleep thinking about relaxing at the ocean. I no longer live within an hour of the ocean, it's more like a 6 hour trip now. I guess I will need to find an alternative to an ocean trip for now. Cheers.

School Shopping on a Budget

It's that time of year, the end of summer, end of warm weather, the carefree days at home for the kids and the days that make our pocketbooks tremble with fear. These are a few of my tips and I'll share some of the deals I got along the way. I've been picking up school supplies since they started showing up on display at the stores. Spiral notebooks for .15, composition books .50, pens $1 per pack, glue sticks .25. I didn't buy it all in one fail swoop, remember the budget. But a few here and a few there and you can accumulate more than you think. I took each boy out seperately this week, shopping with both boys together makes this mom crazy. This week's shopping focused on shirts and shorts, in a couple weeks we focus on pants and sweatshirts. We got shoes and shorts on clearance with an extra 50% off. Score!! Don't get frustrated if money is tight, there are always options. Whether it be planning way ahead, shopping clearance racks or paroozing the thrift store aisles. I've done all three. Cheers!

I found this Japanese China and was elated, I've never owned a set of China before. I haven't figured out how to make a picture collage on my blog yet, so forgive the string of photos. My Aunt Lil's Brown Iced Tea Pitcher

Ever since I can remember whenever we would go visit my great aunt Lil's house she always had a pitcher of iced tea on the kitchen counter in a brown pitcher. I loved her iced tea and I loved her, espcially her wit and humor. Come to find out in my adult years that her brown pitcher was actually a Marcrest brand dot and daisy design. Horribly, my beloved Aunt Cheryl and I used to joke as to who would get the treasured brown pitcher upon Aunt Lil's passing. Yes, I no it was a tad morbid but we were just kidding around. One day when visiting my in-laws I went to a local antique shop and there it was a replica of Aunt Lil's pitcher. With lightening speed I swooped it up and took it home. Last week while doing my weekly thrift store run I came across a matching cookie jar w/o the lid. For a meer $2.99 I bought it and am using it to hold my cooking utensils. The nice memories I get each time I look at them are priceless. Do you have a family heirloom that brings you joy? Cheers.

Domestically Driven

Remember my post from months back that my word for the year is driven? Well I'm still striving towards new things that make my stretch, physically, emotionally, spiritually. My drive right now is learning and equipping to entertain people in my home. I frequent the local thrift stores and my current finds include a beautiful tablecloth, crackle vase, clear glass pyrex platter, 4 glass salad plates and a secret find that I'll share later when my camera is handy. I also bought 3 clear glass plates from Bed, Bath & Beyond to give me a total of 8 dinner plates. Total cost under $15. I'm now moving on to 4 bar stools, my kitchen table is bistro height. So, if my friends come over I need to be able to seat them somewhere other than the couch. Many thanks to my girlfriends, Kelly, Sandy & Amy who let me ask many "stupid" questions about what they do and what they have at their homes. The info I've gathered from them is priceless. I'm trying to come up with a menu for my first gathering my Reluctant Entertainer book says cook things you know so I'll be working on that. I've always thought that having people over didn't mean having to serve prime rib or crab, why not spaghetti?? It's the friends not the food right? Wish me luck.

Beach Boat Church Camp

I ask for prayers as our high school youth group leaves for summer camp. It sounds like an terrific place, they get to stay on house boats. How COOL is that? I want our big guy to have an amazing time, have so much fun he doesn't think he could pack one more thing into this "fun" schedule. I also pray that he is amazed by the Lord. On a more evil note, I'm going to clean and rearrange his room while he is gone. MUAHAHAHAHA. Cheers!

An Old Dog Can Learn New Tricks

So, I've been reading my new book The Reluctant Entertainer. I'm feeling like I have gained some new confidence that I to can do this entertaining thing. It's not hard, or at least it's not supposed to be. I purchased a new steno pad to take important notes for myself from the book. I've been going through my own stash of dinnerware etc., I've been making bi-weekly trips to the local thrift stores to see what I can pick up to add to my own (advice from the author). So far I have found 2 packages of 4 cloth napkins, dark sage green $1 each, clear decorative bottle for flowers $1.50, round red placemats on clearance for .88 cents a piece. I did notice that I am lacking on the amount of dinnerware I have. Don't judge me but I only have a service for 4 in my all white cafe style dishes. If I do have people over what are they supposed to eat on? I'm hoping to add a few more dishes in the next couple weeks, I also noticed that our fork population has decreased. ????. I'm thinking they may be hiding in the boys' rooms. Have a great week, maybe you'll be the victim, I mean lucky person who gets to be a part of my entertaining experience. Cheers!!

Finally, My Waiting Is Over

I've been waiting for 7 very long days for the book I ordered to arrive. One of the blogs I love and follow is Nesting Place and while reading one day she blogged about a book that a friend wrote and was just published. It spoke of entertaining people and how it didn't have to be fancy, complicated or hard. I was instantly in love. I always long to have friends over but seldom do. There are 1000 excuses I could come up with, like my house is to small, food not fancy enough, not enough seating and on and on. The book is entitled The Reluctant Entertainer by Sandy Coughlin, her lovely blog is of the same title. I am the reluctant entertainer and am sooo hoping this will help me venture out into the unknown I desperately desire. I will surely keep you updated on my progress. Cheers!

THE EAGLE HAS LANDED

I repeat, the eagle has landed. Yesterday right after lunch I got the happiest phone call from the receptionist at work. My new sewing machine had arrived. I quickly sprinted up front to retrieve my prize. I decided to go with the Brother cs6000i. It is a moderately priced machine and has 60 stitches and some slightly fancy features. I was so excited because it came with a hard carrying case and extended table attachment. Yipee! I will probably take it for a test drive later this week. I appreciate all who helped out by giving your opinions and letting me know what you sew with. Cheers!

Hot Days of Summer

We are planning our first (and inexpensive) outing tomorrow night. Our local pool is open on M, W & F nights from 6:30-8pm. The cost is $1 for kids up to age 17 and $2 for adults. It's supposed to be over 100 degrees tomorrow and I thought it would be a great place to visit. I don't get in the water yet, maybe another 50 lbs from now. But I do take my baseball chair and book, I find a shaded spot and just enjoy myself. Of course I'm bringing my camera to get some pics of the boys. Cheers.

Couldn't Pass It Up

I found this little baby while cruising the book aisle at one of my local thift stores. I saw this small, probably 3x4 book on a shelf by itself. The deep green cover caught my eye and when I read the title "A Christmas Anthology" I knew it had to come home and join my other Christmas books I display during the holidays. The pages are prestine and appear to never have been cracked open. Poor little book, I will have to break it in this year. Whenever I drop off items to be donated I always have to "cruise" the store looking for a deal. It's been a huge help with clothes since I started losing weight. I don't want to spend a fortune on clothes until I am a comfortable size. VIVA LA THRIFT STORE. Cheers!

Super Summer Debt Payoff Begins Today

I am so excited about this I can't even put it in the right words. Starting today we are using my paychecks to pay off bills and only live off of Ralph's income. It takes several weeks of "preparation" and tightening to get the cushion to start. Although it may seem radical to some but here are some of the specifics we do: we only eat out every 2 weeks on my payday, the grocery budget has been decreased, our entertainment will primarily be doing things together that are at no cost or the Redbox dvd's and no debiting or atm visits. Last year we did this but then stopped when Sept came, this year however we are going to keep going until the debt list is all paid off. So every two weeks when we get to eat out it's a celebration dinner and I announce which bill got paid off we toast each other. We found a water park within an hour of us which is owned by the city so admittance is only $4 for adults and $3 for kids and you can be there from 12-8 and bring your own food in. How great is that? If you are budgeting or paying off bills keep it up. Cheers!

I am so excited and almost giddy about this summer. Why you ask? Because it is pretty much open this year. Ryan isn't playing tournament ball this summer like he has for the last three years, well one tournament in July but that's it. Wes is going to lacrosse camp and was asked if he wanted to do some lacrosse tournaments this summer. Generally summer baseball is very intense (practice every night and tournaments on the weekends) and will end around the end of July. So if your boy is doing this they have played baseball from March 1st to August 1st. So this summer we only have a few random tournaments to go to and I am trying to think of FUN summer stuff to do the rest of the time. I am a planner, planner, planner so of course I want to get things on the books to do. So far we have LAX (abbr. for lacrosse), BASEBALL, WATER PARK, HIGH SCHOOL CHURCH CAMP FOR WES, MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GAMES. Not a huge list but fun anyway, we are squeezing some visits with friends as well into some of the tournaments. I've added a couple baseball pics. Wes gets one of the biggest leads off a base in hopes of stealing. He is usually successfull and makes pitchers nervous. Ryan always rocks it behind the plate. Those pictures of him are a bit harder to get because I have to stand up and block others view of the game. Hee hee I don't really care, I have scrapbooking opportunites to get. 1st Birthday Milestone "16"

Do you remember how exciting and cool it was to finally turn 16? It meant driving, certain freedom from your parents, status at school and too many other great things to count. My first born is "16" today and I can't believe how emotional I feel. He's been an amazing kid and now that we are in the home stretch with only 2 more years of high school I think I'm feeling panicked that it's not enough time. People always say how quick it goes, yeah yeah whatever. Well they are right. When Ralph gets home from work he's taking him down to take his drivers license test. Hmmmm, am I tearing up? Not yet. Tomorrow night it's a birthday dinner with his choice of where to go and noone gets to complain (that's our house rules). Your birthday your call. And even with him being a "cool" guy, he still hugs me and tells me I'm the best mom even in front of his friends. My cousin James taught him that, "never be embarrassed of you mama". So Happy Birthday big Wes, next milestone "18". XOXO.

Homemade Gifts

My initial thought was I was going to knit a gift per month and by the time Christmas got here I would have 12 gifts ready to go. Okay, so I only have 3 which is half of my quota. I am definately not a speed knitter but have things like lacrosse, baseball yada yada that suck up my knitting time. Those are all just excuses, I usually knit after the boys have gone to bed and Ralph & I are up watching tv. I came to the realization last week that I hated everything I was currently knitting and that's why I hadn't touched it in a couple weeks. So I fixed my slump by taking the four projects I had going off the needles and starting fresh. Ahhhh, I am so excited! I am doing an afghan blanket. Normally that utter thought of knitting something that big would be to much, but this one is 24 squares, all different patterns and coordinating colors. Kind of similar to putting quilt blocks together (another love of mine). I'll post the square when I'm finished but for now you can see the Feather and Fan Scarf I finished. Not sure who will be the recipient at Christmas but it was fun to do. Homemade gifts are the best to give and receive. Cheers!

Girls Weekend at the Farm Chicks Antique Show

Oh! the fun I had with my funky vintage junk loving girlfriend Amy at the Farm Chicks Antique show in Spokane. Never heard of the Farm Chicks? You can check them out on here and here. I first read about them about 4 years in my favorite magazine Country Living. I was so excited when I learned that they were located so close to me here in Washington. You just may be a Farm Chick too. Amy and I have talked for a couple years about going and this year booked hotel and took a short road trip. We were totally amazed at how many people were there, we overheard ladies from Iowa and Michigan. Wow, now that’s a love for antiques. We each came home with a few “must have” finds. Like my vintage Christmas apron that I loooove, black handbag w/ original coin purse, glass doorknob and a couple antique Ball canning lids. We ended our trip with the most delicious breakfast ever in Spokane at Franks Diner. My favorite breakfast spot when we visit there. We have decided of course that this is a yearly trip for us. Next time we might have to add in Friday for some additional shopping downtown. Cheers!

What A Great Man

Two weeks ago tomorrow Ralph lost his dad. He had reached the precious age of 90 and we feel was so blessed that he went in his sleep. No pain, no suffering, how thankful we are. Marty was such a dear man and I cherish the time I got to spend with him. Especially the two years we spent in his hometown after moving from away from our friends and family in northern California. What a lucky 2 years I had with him. He taught me how to cook quite a bit 20 years ago, we had coffee once a week together, he raised two small boys by himself (not so popular in the 1960's) and was the best dad ever according to Ralph's friends testimonies at his funeral. We LOVED him dearly but are so glad that he is with our Heavenly Father. He was also a Chicago Cubs fan, having spent the greater part of his childhood in Chicago. So this year, along with the Oakland A's I will cheer on the Cubbies. Cheers.

Start It Up

It's the time of the year when we rev it up and begin baseball season for the boys. Our oldest didn't make the high school team. At first we were all sad but he has a wonderful outlook. He told me "Mom, if the Lord had intended for me to be on that team I would be. I guess there's something else I need to do." He thought for a half second about tennis and then Ralph suggested lacosse. He started the same day he was cut and I have to say it has been a total blessing. He LOVES it, we haven't seen a spark in him over a sport in a while. Maybe because it's new? I don't know but he talks about not even trying out for baseball next year and focusing on lacrosse. Wow! He says he still wants to play Babe Ruth after the lacrosse season is over, we'll see. Short man made the "A" team at school and says life is good with his new shinguards and new catcher's mit. I've been lucky enough to scrapbook a few times this past month. I am done scrapping Wes' early years. I am not a painter like my grandma was but like to do other things that let my creative side come out. And honestly sometimes I need to be around girls and leave the testosterone X3 at home. More to come about lacrosse later, it's a crazy sport. I'll take pics soon. Cheers.

Nervous Nelly

Not sure why I'm nervous right now, okay I really do know. It's baseball season and both boys have tryouts at school. We survived day one at high school tryouts and have 2 more days of agonizing anticipation to get through. I think it's toughest on Ralph & I. Why is that? Both of the boys love the game and are skilled but neither would jump off a cliff if they didn't make the cut. I told them last year that being a ball player only enhanced who they already are, it wasn't ALL they are. So, send some good ju-ju our way and we'll see what happens.

I Think I Found My Word

I think I figured out my word for 2010.......Driven. As I read other blogs and was touched by the words others have chosen but nothing popped into my big head. I waited and waited and last weekend wah-lah DRIVEN. Now by nature I am not a "driver" personality. I'm more of a laid back cheery girl. But this year things have to change for me, I joined Weight Watchers right after Christmas. I've not care of my body for far to long, although the fact that amount of weight I have to lose a hefty sum I needed to learn to eat healthy again. I won't lie, I don't like exercising at all. But a couple weeks ago I told Wes I wanted to do the 5k Thanksgiving morning and he said he would do it with me. What a champ! On Sunday I rounded up the family and we took a couple mile walk along the river. It was beautiful and you know it "exercise". I still haven't downloaded Christmas photos from my camera, bad mom. But I started knitting gifts for Christmas this year and scrapbooking with Sandy on a regular basis. I don't know why I'm amazed at how happy I feel when I let my creative paths run free here and there. So out of my comfort zone I am Driven.

I've heard so many stories the past few days of crazed people out at the stores acting ridiculous to others. I will admit I may have gotten my feathers ruffled years back if you "stole" my parking spot during shopping. But now, who cares. If you need to Nascar to get that spot, go ahead and have it. I'll park way back yonder where it's safe. I'm a planner and try to get shopping done early. It's helps me not be crazy come Christmas. I want to focus on my family as the day comes near.

T-MINUS 7

The one week countdown is offically on. One week from today we will be celebrating the joy the season with our family. Reminded that we are so lucky to be given the precious gift of Jesus so very long ago. I am taking some advice from some good friends (thanks Sandy & Kelly) and I'm only putting out some gifts now and waiting until they go to bed so put out the rest. I'm sure at this point the boys might feel a bit jipped by what's under the tree right now. Hee hee, little do they no that there mom is a Christmas mastermind. I want to slip at some of the gifts I have secretly saved for and purchased for the boys or Ralph but I am afraid through our many means of communication that something will get back to them. I'll share once the big day is over.

Tonight I am making cookies for a get together on Sunday, tomorrow making chili and chex mix. In between watching all the my favorite Christmas movies. We have dear friends coming to shop on Sunday and have lunch with us. We won't have a ton of time with them but will cherish the few hours we do. Cheers and be still and know that you are loved.

Christmas in Progress

Christmas decorating is a work in progress. I'm always fussing with the tree, changing little things around. I do this until I like the way it looks. I stared at the dining room fixture last night and decided it needed some sprucing up. So now there are ornaments hanging from it, I think I may add some greenery to it. I need to add ribbon to the Christmas tree, I do this while Ralph is out. He says there is enough on the tree already, that's just crazy talk. There are some fabulous homes on the Christmas tour found here at the Nester. It's probably where I got the urge to keep decorating. I love my snowman collection, I display at work because I don't have the room at my house and it makes it a bit more festive in my office. My friends April is having her very own 12 Days of Christmas Kennedy style. Hop on over there to enter in the giveaways for some beautiful stuff. Recipe Madness PB Cookies & Tortilla Soup

I found the easiest peanut butter cookie recipe last weekend and tackled it this weekend. It was so simple, 3 ingredients and that's it. They were so good enjoyed with a glass of milk of course. I also made a chicken tortilla soup, yummy on those cold days like today. My favorite chicken tortilla soup was from a restaurant in St. Helena called Armadillos. I'm not sure if they are even there anymore but it always seem to hit the spot. Only one more thing for Ralph for Christmas and I'm done. I have to say it feels soooooo good. Maybe a few stocking stuffers, my hairdresser gave me some great ideas for those pre-teen or teens. She always gets hers a bottle of their favorite soda, small bag of chips or pringles and their favorite candy bar (full size). I'm so sick of packing the boys stocking with lots of candy. I hope everyone is enjoying the season, it should be enjoyed. Although it's cold here it is so beautiful and I love it. Get Your Christmas On

It's December 1st and for many people the official okay to start putting Christmas stuff up and shopping. Although I LOVE Christmas I respect my husbands feelings and don't put the tree up until the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The tree is up and the first part of ornaments are up. It usually takes a few days of staring at it and adding some more here and there before I love it. Ryan asked me why we had to put the blanket (tree skirt) underneath, apparently it gets in his way. My work Christmas party is Friday and my knitting group party is Saturday. I'm going to try and get my Chex mix and pretzels made on Sunday to start packaging for goodie gifts that we deliver to our friends. Do something fun and in the holiday spirit this weekend, maybe some cookie baking with your kids or let them make Christmas cards for their grand parents. There is lots of fun to be had. Cheers.

For my Lord and Savior for without Him I would have no life.

My dear husband RALPH. He has brought me so much happiness over the past 20 years. I get reminders all of the time of why I love him so much. Each time I look up and say "thank you", not everyone is as lucky as I am.

Thankful for my two boys Wes and Ryan is an understatement. The are my joy (most of the time), the beautiful miracles that my husband and I created. They will grow up to be fine men, loving, kind but rough and tumble too. Just like their dad.

We have family and friends near and far who have blessed our lives. We love you and for those who we have been reconnected with we are lucky to get to know you again. There is always something to be thankful for, just reach inside you'll find it.

Being Together

I think the thing I like most about the holidays is just simply being together. I didn't grow up getting a massive mound of presents from my parents. We got some and then usually a few from aunts and uncles, but what I looked forward to the most was going to my Aunt Cheryl's to eat and be with everyone the whole day. We spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at her house. My dad will come over and have dinner with us on Thursday and then we will head out as a family to the movies. Sounds weird maybe, but since we aren't around a ton of family we made a tradition of going to the movies. It's open and there usually isn't a lot of people there. This year we are going to see New Moon. There are so many movies we want to see but we need to space them out a bit. We are taking Ryan and a friend to dinner and a movie for his birthday, so we are saving Old Guys or A Christmas Carol for that day. I got my pie crust made and in the fridge, I baked my pumpkin for pumpkin pies last night. The turkey is defrosting, all in all we are ready to rock and roll. It's time to get your bake on, I'm a dork I know. Cheers.

Applesauce & Apple Pie

I have a bag of Gala apples and a bowl full of Granny Smiths that I really need to get cooked up before they spoil. I'm going to make an applesauce that I found here at Lady Dunbar's blog and try my hand at another apple pie recipe. I haven't found one yet that I love and adore. I'll also be making my Glazed Apple Bars for the PTA teacher lunch at Ryan's school. I'm going to meet my friend Stephanie for lunch on Saturday to celebrate her birthday. She took me for margaritas and nachos so I of course have to return the favor. What good friend wouldn't? I'll be working on my recycled goodie cans this weekend to. The more I do them the better they are evolving. It will be fun when Wes and I go around to deliver the goodies to our friends houses. I prayed and asked the Lord to bless our friends and bless the time we can spend with them this Christmas. Here's to a fabulous weekend, time to get all of the last minute Thanksgiving stuff. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

I know it's November and Thanksgiving is upon us, but I can't help it. Christmas is definately my favorite holiday. I love it ALL, the tree, decorations, music, wrapping paper, cookies, you name it. We are almost done with the boys gifts, only some stocking stuffers to go. For a couple of years now we have scaled way down on the amount that we give them. I think on some level they appreciate what they receive more than in the past. I start talking to them months before about what they may truly "want". It provokes thought on their part. I'm gathering my recipes together for homemade goodies to give out and for our 2nd Annual Cookie Exchange. I'm making the Ragamuffin Garland featured on Edie's blog found here. Mine is made from Christmas colored scraps of fabric that I already have and that my dear friend Sandy is donating to me. I'll post pics as soon as it's done. I've also been recycling my old Christmas cards by cutting off the front of the card and gluing it to the front of a brown paper gift bag. I have some lunch bags that I'm going to do this too to pack up my homemade goodies. I promise pics will come. Enjoy the day, think of the fabulous Christmas things that are coming. Dressed up in orange and black at work today, orange shirt, black sweater, blue jeans, orange socks, black Mary Jane shoes, orange MAC lipstick (thanks Jen), black dangle earrings and ta-da a Halloween outfit it is. We opted not to dress up in costume today because the actual holiday is tomorrow. Sooo much fun, my lipstick is so bright I would never wear it otherwise, but today it's alright. We finally got an internet service to work at our house. We have Verizon Wireless for our cell phones and just found out about their air cards. Since we only have laptops it works out great. Enjoy the parties and festivities you may be attending this weekend. I am going to try and enjoy the weather and falling of the leaves. It's windy today but I like it. GLAMOUR

So, on Monday night a group of girls from work converged at Kelly's house to have our own official "makeup" lesson from Jen. Jen is a freelance makeup artist who is amazing and we are glad she works with us now and not for MAC anymore. Kelly cooked us a yummy simple meal of chicken tenders, tossed greens and jalapeno dip w/ bread. We learned so much from Jen, she let us ask questions even the ones we thought were stupid. And yes she was right, she turned us onto MAC cosmetics. I would guess that most don't use 3/4 of the makeup we own. We should have taken some up close pics but at least we remembered to take this "after" one. What a fun time to hang out with the girls from work. Enjoy the day. Cheers.

What Fun I Will Have

It started last Friday when I got to scrapbook at my friend Sandy's. Then on Saturday I went with her to watch her daughter's band competition. It rained most of the time but we saw some incredible talent and ended the day with a great meal including milkshake. Yummm. Tonight I'm going to a co-workers house and another co-worker of ours who is a make up artist is doing a class for us. Tomorrow is my normal knitting night, I'm not sure if I can stand this much creativity in one week. Who am I kidding, of course I can. I'm trying to decide on a date for the Christmas wrapping paper swap that I'm hosting at my little house. I always say I want to do some many "things" and finally am setting time and actually doing it. Forever I have wanted to have a home where people would just drop in or have folks over for dinner. But yet I would never invite anyone over. See the irony? So I'm taking baby steps. I had to start letting go that my house wasn't the biggest, fanciest or best for entertaining. I love the line from the Toby Mac song "when love is in the house, the house is packed". That's my house, we may be small but we'll pack it full of love. Cheers.

Got the opportunity to have a picture snapped with Wes last Saturday during Ryan's freezing, windy baseball game. He is my oldest baby. Even though he is on his way to being 16 and has his moments of making me crazy I still adore him. We have a very teasing mom/son relationship. Half of the time we tell each other jokingly "hate you" no "i hate you more". It's our loving banter and done purely in good spirit and love. I can't believe I had him so long ago. He is patient and understanding, we hope to be able to raise him to be a good man/husband/father. Thank you Lord for giving us Wes and the chance to raise Your child. The Healthy Wagon is Tough

Ate cheeseburger for lunch yesterday and had a patty melt last night. To much salt on the french fries and they made my feet swell. I've switched to drinking hot tea at night instead of coffee (when did I turn into my parents?) I have to start exercising again, I feel horrible physically. Thank God I've stayed the same weight but that is a dangerous fence to walk. Fall ball ends this weekend for the boys. Part of the reason I enjoy it so much is spending time with my friends. I'm so excited I get to scrapbook next Friday with Sandy and then on Saturday I'm going with her to a marching band competition. Two days of girly fun, I can't wait. .

I bought my new Christmas tree, it's a 6.5 ft. pre-lit from Costco. It looks like it's planted in a big gold pot. Beautiful to say the least. The one we have is to big for the place we live in now so it's going to a good home at Stephanie's. I wanted this tree last year and didn't act in time and then "no more trees". I've budgeted and now it's mine. Most of the boys Christmas shopping is done another planning thing I remember from last year. For 2-3 months now I've been asking the boys what they truely want for Christmas. They thought about it and would show me stuff at the store. I keep a small notebook in my purse and would take notes. I told them I didn't want to spend money on things they would never use so take time to consider what you really want. They came up with some good lists. I'm making my own Christmas dishes. I got the supplies and am hoping to start this weekend. I'll take pics and post the final craft when it's done. The weather is beautiful here right now, as I walk to my car at lunch time I breathed in and thanked the Lord for the wonderful day He created. Cheers.

It's All About Relationships

Whether it's business, family, friends or people at the store I think our success depends on the relationships we've made and how we tend to them. Do you send a quick email or note to someone you haven't spoken to in a while? How about learning the name of the Starbucks girl and saying "good morning so and so". Personally I need to slow a bit down and nuture the relationships I have in my life. I have 2 friends I've been wanting to write a handwritten letter to. Does it really take that long to shoot an email to someone? Answer, no it doesn't.

I did start a recipe email list, I love cooking and when I find a good recipe I want to share it with people. So I asked on FB who wanted on my list and away I went. Whenever I come across a recipe that I've made and LOVE I'll pass it on to my "recipe friends". Just today I sent off Triple Berry Crisp. If you want on my email list let me know and you'll be the happy recipient of yummy recipes as they come along.

After a month of looking at my weight of 253, I finally broke it and am glad to say I am 251. Not much but I'll take it. It's easy to get lacks about excersing (which I have), and the boys being busy with sports is a great excuse.

I think I'm going to plan a Christmas wrapping paper swap with some girlfriends. My boss and I were talking about how we are sick of the paper we have and since it normally takes a couple of years to go through those rolls we are stuck with them. I said "we should have a swap", and the light went on. So probably in November I will invite some girls over to bring their used or new paper and swap it. To keep it fair you get to leave with the same number that you came with. Appetizers and wrapping paper, what fun huh? Also on my to-do list is still making my window pane into a coat rack, painting and destressing my fruit crate and make it into a coffee table for the living room, hang my small wooden Coca-Cola box in the boys bathroom above the toilet for storage (Ralph put shelves in it years ago for me) and scan the Goodwill for frames I can paint black for Halloween. So many things spinning in my mind, I think I need to write them down so I don't forget anything. HA!

Road Blocks and Christmas Tips

Speaking of financial road blocks earlier. Road block "mom I need a scientific calculator for geometry", road block "composition notebook for my block classes", road block "glue sticks", road block "my cleats are to small my toes are touching the end". Me speaking to them "Yer killing me Smalls". We got all items needed for school. I have kept Wes' cleats each year, we only get one season out of them. So it was such a blessing to go out to the garage and find a pair of Wes' that would fit Ryan.

As for Christmas, which I LOVE. This will be the second year we only buy gifts for the boys. Don't gasp, it's easier than you think. We used to buy gifts for everyone, family, friends, co-workers and bosses. Now I knit presents presents with yarn I already have. I baked cookies, breads etc. for my friends and co-workers who are local. This year I think I am going to make ornaments from Christmas cards that I kept from years past. If you know of any good ones, let me know. We also give "services", mowing the yard for grandpa, babysitting for a friend. There are endless possibilities and are usually much appreciated. If you are trying to save money or the thought of the holidays makes your cringe try some homemade things. Cheers!

Hills and Valleys

I feel like we are in the valley part of our debt payoff looking up at the hill before us. We are in the home stretch and I feel like road blocks are coming up right and left trying to get us off track. The concept is simple but sticking to a budget can be hard sometimes. I know it will be worth at the end of the year when it's all paid off. I got a tooth filling this morning and I swear the dentist rocked my tooth around, ouch. It feels like someone punched me in the jaw. If anyone is struggling today keep strong. There is light at the end of the tunnel and his name is Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Lean on him for he is our rock and our fortress. Cheers.

I have to say I do love the fall season. The temperature is calming down in my neck of the woods it's been a beautiful 80 degrees, I think we've said goodbye to 100 for the year. I love the mornings and evenings, so calming. It's Friday and I'm enjoying my grande, 2 pump white mocha from Starbucks. Friday is the day I treat myself to special coffee, it's part of the budget. Otherwise left to my own devices I would get one everyday almost. Yummm. My goals for this weekend are...hanging my old framed window on my living room wall and attaching hooks to it to make a coat rack of sorts. It doesn't seem like all that much to do but it's sandwiched in between two baseball games tomorrow, one more on Sunday, church and scrapbooking. What a great weekend! Went to the Southridge/Kamiakan football game, we won. Of course Wes and Ryan like to hang out with there friends, Ralph and I go to get out of the house and it's pretty cheap entertainment. We are on a budget ya know. The weather was great, a bit of rain Saturday night which we loved. Opened up all of the windows in the house and listened to it and took in the great smell you get from it. Movie date with Ralph on Sunday, we saw Final Destination. It was good but I close my eyes on the yucky parts, I'm such a chicken. I tried P90x with Ralph last night and did the arms, shoulders, back with him. My upper body is tired and I know the pain will be here by Thursday. One thing I am very excited about is a trip to California the summer of 2011. I know it seems far away but not for us. We are hoping to have bought a house around next summer. Then when we go to visit the following summer we will have Sarah Lane take Wes' senior pictures while we are there. I thought it was a grand idea, visit family and friends and have totally neat pics for him. I haven't been to California since we moved away 6 years ago. Look out Napa, I'm coming to town. Cheers.

Off To a Great Start

First day of school for Ryan was Monday, a big 7th grader now. He cracks me up, he's a grand story teller and loves giving all the details. Wes started Tuesday and isn't crazy about honors chemistry already, but loves his sports medicine class. He even made friends with a Russian exchange student (who happens to be a girl). I told him it's tough being smart, what a horrible thing. HA. The boys have been awesome about our budgeting and paying off bills. They are using the same backpacks from last year. I mean really they are in great condition still. New shoes, a few new shirts and some shorts. Cheers today to all of the moms who are home or in the workplace.

Being a Woman Can Be Tough

I only say this because I'm in the middle of my cycle and my guts may fall out from all of the cramping. Aside from that I'm okay. The boys are at Scouts tonight helping paint a church so this means Ralph & I get to go out by ourselves. We don't do it nearly enough, but I sooo enjoy it when we do. It makes me remember how much I love being with him no matter where we are. With all of the frogs I kissed along the way the Lord certainly brought me a prince 20 years ago. This last July 29th was the anniversary of our first date at Sears Point Raceway. I still think he is as hunky as ever. I just need to get my sexy body going again and we'll be even. I really do feel fortunate that I have a hubby that loves me no matter what size, color hair, clothes I am. He's truly a gentlemen (most of the time anyway). First day of fall ball is tomorrow, Wes also starts boxing. Let's get our busy on. Cheers.

MY DAILY QUESTION TO MYSELF

"If I had one month to live would this matter?" I've been asking myself that for a couple of days. At church they are going to be starting a bible study that is based on the book One Month to Live. I actually found it at my local library and checked it out. Now I've only read the first few pages, but wow. How would your daily life be lead if you only had one more month. I've had several situations from work to baseball come up and I've asked myself that very question. The answers have been pretty much what I thought. Why dwell on little stupid things that do nothing to me but bring me irritation and grief. I look forward to finishing the book and maybe doing the study with the whole family. Cherish what you have right now. Does it really matter if the lady messed up your drink at Starbucks? In the grand scheme of things not really.

My sweet friend April had a great idea that I'd like to copy. This Sunday the day before school starts we are having a "special" dinner and are going to have the boy's favorites. Fancy table and all. What a great way to make them feel special, thanks April. So what would you do differently if you had only one month to live? Cheers.

Okay I feel horrible saying this but...one week until school starts. Thank goodness, the natives are in the home stretch. As well as they get along I think they are fed up with too much "brotherly love". Time to get back into the swing of things and see your friends at school. Bought Wes a Cookie Monster t-shirt last night. It cracks me up that a 10th grader will be walking around in a bright blue Sesame Street shirt. Still doing my 10 minute trainer dvd's. I think Ralph may be starting the P90 series today. He bought the Bowflex adjustable dumbell set this weekend. I'm so glad because I can use them too. They go from 5-52 lbs. Went to Yakima to see my dad race his Nova on Saturday. I'll get pics up as soon as I can, the boys totally loved it. Cheers

RUNNING START

After working today here's how the rest of the day goes. Take Wes to youth group at church, drop prescriptions off, take Ryan to sign he and Wes up for fall ball then go to store to get ingredient items for Pampered Chef party tomorrow night. Make sure stove top is super clean tonight (don't want anyone to think it's ever messy). There is my whiny rant, sorry you had to witness it. Crazy, crazy next couple of days I tell ya. School is almost ready to start and the boys are ready. We are back at 100 degrees today, yuck. Where is the 80 degrees we had last Saturday. Wes' shoulder is fine and cleared for sports, thank you for your prayers. At the end of the day sit for a moment and rest. You deserve it. Cheers.

What a Great Weekend

Nothing to special happened, but great by my standards. The weather was absolutely fantastic here, mid 80's I think. I was Martha Stewart this weekend, I made a triple berry crisp, buffalo wing wonton pies with bleu cheese crumbles. On Sunday morning the boys requested chicken fried steak omelettes. They were very tasty. I painted the dining room and hallway. It looks so nice so nice and warm compared to hospital white. I'm not very fond of white walls probably because we have rented for so long and that's usually the norm. Thankfully I have awesome landlords and asked them if I could paint a warm/neutral color. What a difference it makes in the feel of the room. When we buy a home soon there will be no colorless walls allowed. And definately one red room. Wes goes to the orhopaedic doctor today. His shoulder was popping at the end of baseball this season, let's hope it's growing stuff and not an injury. Prayers would be appreicated. Working out is still going good, I can tell that I get really stiff if I go a few days without doing the yoga portion. Be thankful this week, cheers.

Where Has the Time Gone?

School starts in two weeks. Well I'm actually ready for that, the boys are going to kill each other soon. It's the same each year, they like one another for about a month. Then the last 3 weeks of Summer it's WWF. School shopping is mostly done only a few things to pick up. Wes gets his schedule next week and Ryan's will come Monday. My hamstrings are not on cranky anymore. Tonight I will try the whole body workout, I'm a little gun shy to do the lower body one so soon. Maybe this weekend?? I'm trying different layouts for my blog to see what I like. Maybe the background will change each month just for fun. Believe it or not fall baseball signups are this weekend. That's okay, at least we've gotten a month off. The hubby and I are having dinner alone tonight while the boys go to a scout potluck. Cheers.

HEALTHY CAN BE PAINFUL

I say this with the utmost confidence. Only because after doing my lower body and cardio workout last Friday my hamstrings are on strike. Holy cow! I'm assuming it will take at least this week doing yoga every day to loosen them up again. I went with my good friend Sandy last Friday to pick up her son from baseball camp. What a great day. We watched them run through drills and batting and then got to break for a great lunch, followed by graduation from camp. It was fun, relaxing and just what I needed. Thanks Sandy!! Ralph and Ryan were white water rafting so me and big Wes painted the living room. It's darker than I expected but very warm which is the enviroment I was going for.

CRASH AND BURN

That is pretty much how we feel after this last weekend. Baseball games Thurs, Fri & Sat. It didn't go below 103 and got up 112 said one of the signs. Our boys won about half of the games they played, we are so proud of Ryan. He is such a trooper, dripping with sweat and having mom and dad nag him about drinking lots of water. Don't be fooled by my small rant, we love watching the boys play. We've been blessed with great friends that we've made through the boys playing. I didn't exercise from Friday thru Sunday, I was just exhausted. Got back on the wagon last night and I feel great. I'm hoping the margarita's from our team party don't come back to haunt my calories to bad. I only had two so I'm hoping not. We now have a month until school starts. The boys have an 11:00 bedtime starting yesterday. Next week it will be 10:00 pm and then back to normal by school time. I'm looking forward to dinners with the family this week. Cheers.

I FEEL GREAT

There might be something to this whole exercise thing. I received my 10 Minute Trainer DVD set last week. I did it W, Th, F & Sun. I feel good. I did find myself saying "I don't want to workout today", then thought "good golly it's only 20 minutes" get up. My legs and butt don't hurt as bad today. I just keep trudging on, I've been sliding into Wes' room instead of holding the family hostage in the living room. I found a great inspiration in his room. Wes has a poster of Muhammad Ali on his wall with the words across it "IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING". It's right above his television so I see during my workouts. I forgot to weight in Friday morning so I'll have to just wait until this Friday. I'm not sure if I have a "goal" weight in mind, more like a goal size. I want to be able to shop in the regular size departments and not have to go to the plus sizes. This means somewhere around a size 12/14. Our last baseball tournament is this weekend. We love baseball but it's been a long haul. Pray that the weather isn't what they predict, they say 100's that makes it miserable. Enjoy the day. Cheers.

TODAY FEELS LIKE CHRISTMAS EVE

Because I'm waiting for my 10 Minute Trainer DVD set to arrive. I never thought I would be so excited. Since I pretty much hate to exercise but have come to the conclusion that my extra weight will not come off without it. On lunch today I ran to Walmart to pick up a yoga mat to go along with my DVD's. I figure Ralph can use the mat as well when he's doing his P90x. I received my Primer Potion from Urban Decay and have tested it for two days now. Love it. Day one I wore eyeshadow, no creasing or oilyness. I notice a bit of shine on my eyelid at 11 pm that night, pretty good since I put it on at 6 am that day. Today I wore no eyeshadow and there is no excessive oil on my lids. It only takes a small amount so my pretty purple bottle should last a while. We have baseball practice tonight, it's 102 out right now. Thank goodness it's at 7pm. I am thankful for my friends today. Since moving from Napa so many years ago and moving from the group of friends I had bonded with for so long I find myself sad on occaision. Along the way I have gathered a handful maybe two handfuls of people that have blessed my life. Cheers.

ALL IS RIGHT IN THE WORLD

All is right in the world, Ryan came home from camp safe and sound. He had an amazing time. It rained the first night there, but it blew through. He came home with two new merit badges, made his own leather wallet and gained independence. Sad to say on Saturday one of Ryan's fish died. I gave it a proper burial in the comode. I think Wes is a bit jealous of the good time Ryan had. Sometimes Wes bags on Boy Scouts, but he wants to go with Ryan this week to his meeting to check it out. To funny. I'm anxiously waiting for my 10 Minute Trainer series to get here. I did buy a proper sports bra from Catherine's on my lunch today. I'm gearing up with a positive attitude!! My eye primer did arrive today so I will post how it's working tomorrow. I can't believe we have school starting in a month, that can't be we're not even done with baseball yet. Drink lots of water and say "no" to the fries. Toodles.

You can't call me a loser because I gained this week. This is the first time since starting that my dreadful monthly visitor came. I don't know if it had an impact or changed my cravings, who knows? I did order Beachbody's 10 Minute Trainer video series. I'm very excited for it to arrive next week. Thanks April for the suggestion. We all get so busy during the week and speaking only for myself a workout is one of the first to go out the window. So, I need something rather quick to do each day. The thought of spending 1.5 hours at a gym to workout is just crazy to me. I also ordered a product for myself called Primer Potion from Urban Decay. It's an eyelid primer to keep your eye makeup from creasing or sliding off. I have oily skin and weirdly enough oily eyelids. After researching online I found many suggestions about this product. SO QUIET, YET SO CRAZY

It has been so quiet around the house with Ryan gone to scout camp. He returns this Saturday and I can't wait to see him and hear about all of his adventures. I picked out some paint to use in the living room and hall, it's called Dapper Tan. Ralph & Ryan will be white water rafting in a few weeks and I must make the most of the 3 days they are gone. We did another installment of our Super Summer Payoff today and it feels great. I don't know if there are words enough to explain the joy it brings me. Although the bills are both of ours it has emotionally impacted me. With each payday I feel released, pardoned if you will. I recovered my dining room chairs, I'll try to get a pic posted soon. My weight stayed exactly the same. I'm a bit sad, but not a lot. It's not a gain and that makes me happy. I did Ab Ripper X from P90 today. Holy cow, I couldn't even finish it but I made a good effort. Abs everyday from now on and then I can say goodbye to my double muffin top, HA! I still need to take my body measurements so I can accurately gage how my body is changing. Put that on my list for this weekend. Scrimmage tonight and field prep duties for the state championship this weekend. That's also on my list. This weekend must find time to relax just a little and exercise. Cheers.

WHERE HAS THE SUMMER GONE?

How did we get to the middle of July so soon? I should know better by now. As the boys regular baseball season ends and selections are made for tournaments teams Ryan usually is on the fence until the last minute. By the time the last tournament is over at the end of July, they have about 3 weeks until school starts. I'm now trying to gear up mentally and financially for school clothes and supplies. I'm going to pick up a few shirts at Costco and take Wes to Old Navy for school shorts. That's the great thing about living here, the kids can wear shorts to school for a while. Ryan leaves for Boy Scout camp this weekend. Each day we add a few last minute items to pack. He is SOOOOOO excited, he can't stand it. We are so happy for him. His first time really away from Ralph & I, doing things on his own. Wow! I cancelled the internet service with Verizon, they are so horrible. I need to call one of the other companies this week to get it up and going again. Be blessed today in all you do. Cheers.

A LITTLE BEHIND

Not so bad I guess. This is last Fridays weigh in, we had a baseball tournament all weekend and I couldn't get on the computer. I am actually pleased, I didn't eat badly but not totally healthy at times. I did stay away from soda and drank lots of water and some Gatorade G2. Soda and hot sun is a bad combo. No nachos from concessions either (a weakness I might add). But Saturday was the 4th and after our evening game we celebrated with friends and I ate dessert and enjoyed it. I'm trying to figure a way to enjoy my grande vanilla latte iced without all of the calories. I hate fat free milk so if anyone has ideas I'd love to hear them. Either making them at home or ordering at a coffee place. My legs hurt from doing my Wii squats. Ralph always says "pain lets you know your alive"...he's right. Cheers.

THE RUMORS ARE TRUE

So the rumors aren't rumors at all but true fact. If you exercise you feel better, duh! I did my Wii Fit this morning. I did basic step, yoga and strength. I'm walking around feeling like my body is looser and more relaxed. Hmmmm, maybe I should keep up this strange new thing. I'm such a dork ask my family anytime. Eventually everything will not seem like such a task and become part of everyday life I hope.

We're gearing up for Ryan's baseball tournament this weekend. Thank God it's local, but the forcast is upper 90's if not 100's. Kind of makes for miserable ball games in that heat. Last year Ryan almost passed out behind the plate after a 50 minute 2nd inning. We're trying to pound the water in him starting today. Wish us luck, I'll take lots of picture to share. Cheers.

SUPER SUMMER PAYOFF #2

Today our the second group of bills got paid off in our Super Summer Payoff. I know it sounds funny, but I love the feeling of paying bills. Probably because there was a time when we would have let them go to deal with them later, and that felt bad. But this will be soooo worth it when we are done. Yeah that means I can't have the Coach purse I want right now, that's okay. Those things will come in time and I won't feel guilty about buying them when I do.

Got a haircut scheduled for tomorrow to match my new blondeness. Yeah, I always feel pretty after a haircut. I'm going to start using my Wii Fit in the mornings before work and see if I really have more energy throughout the day. My Wii Fit characters name is Big Mama. What happens when I lose weight, will I still be Big Mama who knows. Cheers

I love that line from the newest Willy Wonka (both versions are a favorite). I know enough about myself that if I don't structure my day to some degree it's easy to wonder off the path. I made my lunch today and brought some snacks, very good plan, very good indeed. I even took a walk on my lunch hour. I'm so lucky to have a beautiful park out my office back door, it sits on the river and has great walking/biking paths.

I went blonde over the weekend, it's a nice pick-me-up. Since I cut my hair short I haven't minded my natural color so much, but being blonde again cheered me up. This last weekend was so nice, there was nothing on our schedule we had to run to. We're gearing up for this weekend's baseball tournament, at least it's here in town. I'm going to go fill up my water bottle now. Cheers.

I've tried to pay extra special attention to my eating habits this week. No regular sodas, lots of water and a diet Pepsi yesterday. After cutting out the soda even the diet one tasted sweet to me. With not eating breakfast at all I'm finding myself famished at around 10 am and even if I have a snack I'll be famished again by lunch. So truely, eat breakfast it sets you up for the whole day. I found my first grey hair this week, sticking out near my bangs. I didn't yank it, I actually felt pretty lucky that I'm 38 and this is the first one I've seen. I'll being going blonde this weekend if I can find the time so my little grey friend will have to just blend in with the others then. Hee hee. Cheers.

I took this picture last Saturday as we were starting our baseball day. It's not very often I have both of them in uniform at the same time. It's a goofy one, but then again they are goofy guys. They love to be silly and wrestle around, I'm so thankful to Ralph for his playful nature with them. So many times growing up while I was cooking, cleaning, laundry etc., Ralph never hesitated being on the floor with them letting them crawl over him or use him a a jungle gym. I have exactly what I was meant to have, a house full of rough and tumble but sweet boys. I'm going to a Pampered Chef party tonight to get my "girl" time. Even though I love my house of boys I need to escape to the land of girls every now and again. Cheers.

AS I WALK THROUGH THE VALLEY....

Many of you can probably finish the sentence whether you are religious or not. But frankly that is where I feel I am this summer, in the valley trudging to get to the other side. I know there is light at the other side and we have to walk it ourselves.

For us is has to do with finances and the debt that we are determined to pay off this summer. Most of the years that we have been together we did not make sound financial decisions, just lived like we wanted to, and all of those years I've had a knot in the pit of my stomach. A couple of years ago we took a course from Dave Ramsey that frankly saved our lives. We've been trucking along pretty well and just before school ended I summoned a family meeting. It was time to get serious about this. I wanted to launch what I called our "Super Summer Payoff", this included great sacrifice for our whole family. Eating out was cut off except for my paydays, grocery bills cut, almost no entertaiment. With these old bills gone we would be able to move forward in purchasing a home for the first time, not have to worry about who might be calling and set us free from the prison we created for ourselves.

I pray to the Lord daily to give us strength to finish our goal. He has provided that and then some. In the past I wouldn't have spoken to anyone about how bad it was because I was ashamed. Now, if I can help anyone from going through the same I will. There is no shame, just my experience. We are approaching our next pay off debt day next week with each time it feels like a dozen rocks are dumped from the sack I carry on my back. And on that day we celebrate another step closer to freedom. CHEERS.

Better Preparation

In the last couple of days I have figured that my lack of preparation has been key in the quest to lose weight and be healthy. I find when hunger strikes whether I'm at work or running to a ball game if I don't have a healthy choice available to me my instinct is to fall back to whatever might be convenient and most likely it's not healthy. So, I'll be trying to make sure I have snacks that can go in my purse as well as keeping "good" stuff in my desk. Seems simple enough but a hard habit to break none the less. The headache has not come yet from no soda but I do find myself craving it. I've been drinking water at work and iced tea (splenda) at home. My husband has lost 10 pounds since June 1st by cutting out soda....dirty dog. He's not officially in our LOSER club but I'll post his weight loss as well. Cheers.

A FIRST OF MANY

Well this is my first blog post ever. Not sure how to do completely, but I'm going to try and muddle my way through. This is also the first day of WE ARE LOSERS...COME JOIN US. I've unfortunately let myself go over the years and am at a point where I need to correct it. Today is a new beginning. Everyone was still sleeping so I have 2 photos one taken Saturday at a game and then one of my weight this morning. I had way to much pop this weekend, I'm sure my headache will come later.
